Soldiers recovering in Uzhпorod hospitals and on rotation took part in a master class on making Zakarpattian kiflyky (authentic Zakarpattia pastries in the form of small bagels with filling). The event was initiated by the “Tree of My Life” charitable foundation and held as part of educational and cultural activities for the rehabilitation of the military, the foundation told Varosh.
“Tree of My Life” holds such events regularly, trying to get those guys who can leave the ward every month. According to Tatiana Literati, head of the cultural and educational department of the Tree of My Life charity, in the fall she gave the boys city tours, and now, with the weather deteriorating, they have moved indoors. This time, they asked confectioner Liubov Keretsman to conduct a master class on making kiflyks.
– “We decided to bake kiflyky, a traditional Zakarpattia delicacy, and the boys gladly agreed, saying they hadn’t cooked anything for a long time,” she says. “We made them with apricot and plum jam and nut filling. There was one baker among the guys who was sitting in the corner at first, his leg was injured, and then he couldn’t stand it any longer and joined the others. He said he couldn’t stand to watch the guys crookedly molding…
In general, the guys took to the work with great pleasure, although the first part of the dumplings looked more like dumplings, says Tetiana Literati, but the next one was made to perfection.
According to Tetiana Literati, usually different soldiers take part in such monthly events each time.
– Our psychologist, who also made kiflyks with the guys, Pavlo Gudra, says that when the guys talk, start telling what they ate, how they fought, it is a very good sign that they are comfortable and want to talk. Every Monday, Pavlo visits those guys in hospitals who cannot leave their beds and wards and talks to them.
